It took a long time to write the book -- really to finish it -- as things kept happening that I needed to add somehow. And of course, after I closed the manuscript, I would have five different conversations with five different people that inspired me to write a brief companion to the book which would also explain some of the things I included in it. From talking to a winemaker in Abruzzo only a decade younger than me [whom I've developed an uncanny bond with], as well as another producer in Douro who inherited a winery, to exploring the dynamic of not being able to reach across to younger folks and get them to listen as well as older folks who no matter what, can't see things for what they are, this was much needed as well.
